Church Square
You are at the vantage point of the Church Square, from which there is a splendid view of theisland of Montecristo and the entire Tuscan Archipelago.
In the waters between theisland of Giglio and Montecristo in 1241 at least one important medieval naval battle for control of the Tyrrhenian Sea took place between Genoa and Pisa, the two superpowers of the period. This event is of particular importance because it again denotes the centrality of the islands of the archipelago in a larger geopolitical picture where all the major players are present to gain control of the nodes along the route.
