You are at the Belvedere Varco dei Lombi, a striking viewpoint with a picnic area where you can stop and admire, on the horizon, the islands ofElba and Montecristo.
TheCampese landing place is present along with Giglio Porto as early as Protohistoric times (between 12th and 10th centuries B.C.) and may also have been connected to the exploitation of a pyrite mine. Its function remains particularly relevant in the Etruscan period (between 9th and 3rd centuries BC) as evidenced by both a settlement and a wreck. However, in the Roman period (between the 2nd century B.C. and the 6th century A.D.) theinvestment in the opposite area of Giglio Porto, which faces Monte Argentario, causes this site to gradually lose its functions as a port of call until it almost completely disappears.
